Seabourn Encore
New Build Cruise Ship – LED Screen Scenic Integration for Five New Productions
There's always something exciting about working on a brand-new ship. New venues, new productions and the opportunity to help shape entertainment spaces from the very beginning.
For this project, Clockwork Scenery was brought in to support the launch of five brand-new shows within a completely new theatre space. The productions relied heavily on LED screen content, with the challenge being how to transform a collection of screens into a believable stage environment rather than simply a wall of technology.
Having worked extensively with LED screens as scenery on cruise ships, in theatres and at live events, we were well placed to develop practical fabrication and installation solutions that allowed the technology and the scenery to work together seamlessly.
What We Built
Bespoke LED screen scenic frames
Decorative screen surrounds
Scenic masking elements
Integrated LED screen support structures
Custom scenic set pieces
Fabricated mounting systems
Modular scenic components
Technical infrastructure integration
Installation and commissioning support
Scenic elements across five separate productions
A large proportion of the project centred around the manufacture of bespoke frames and scenic structures designed to dress the edges of the LED screens and transform them into scenic features in their own right. Rather than allowing the technology to dominate the space, the scenic elements helped create depth, texture and architectural detail that blended naturally with the digital content being displayed.
Manufactured in our Hampshire workshop, the frames combined scenic carpentry, aluminium fabrication and specialist scenic finishing techniques to create lightweight yet durable structures suitable for installation within a cruise ship environment. Particular attention was paid to access requirements, maintenance considerations and the practicalities of integrating scenery with large-format LED display technology.
Having delivered numerous projects involving LED video walls, pixel LED systems and technical entertainment infrastructure, we were able to develop efficient mounting methods and installation solutions that simplified both construction and future maintenance. As with many cruise ship projects, flexibility and reliability were just as important as appearance.
The finished result was a collection of scenic elements that helped elevate the productions beyond the limitations of a flat LED backdrop, creating a more immersive environment for performers and audiences alike. By combining physical scenery with digital content, the productions gained depth, scale and visual interest whilst retaining all the flexibility that modern LED technology provides.
Projects like this showcase one of Clockwork Scenery's specialist areas: bridging the gap between traditional scenic fabrication and modern entertainment technology. Whether it's scenic carpentry, aluminium TIG welding, structural fabrication, LED video wall integration, set electrics or worldwide installation services, we enjoy finding creative ways to make technology feel like part of the show rather than simply a piece of equipment
