Bill's Place – Seabourn Quest
Originally created as part of the 2015 refurbishment and entertainment venue revamp aboard Seabourn Quest, Bill's Place remains one of those projects that proves simple ideas, executed well, can have a huge impact.
Designed to create a distinctive environment within the ship, the installation combined high-quality fabrication, scenic finishing and integrated lighting to transform the space into a characterful venue with plenty of personality. Whilst the finished result appears effortless, a considerable amount of engineering and scenic craftsmanship sat behind the scenes to achieve the final look.
What We Built
Bespoke aluminium framework
CNC-machined birch plywood cladding
Vac-formed brickwork panels
Integrated LED lightboxes
Duratrans graphic displays
Scenic finishing and installation
Cruise ship venue refurbishment
The structure was built around a lightweight yet robust aluminium framework, fabricated in-house using precision aluminium TIG welding techniques. The use of aluminium provided the ideal balance between strength, durability and weight — an important consideration for any cruise ship installation.
The scenic cladding was produced from CNC-machined birch plywood, allowing us to achieve accurate detailing whilst maintaining consistency throughout the installation. To create the appearance of traditional masonry without the associated weight, vac-formed brickwork panels were incorporated into the design, delivering texture and depth whilst remaining practical for a marine environment.
Integrated LED lightboxes and Duratrans graphics added another layer of visual interest, helping bring the venue to life both during the day and in the evening. The combination of scenic elements, lighting and graphics created a finished environment that felt welcoming, authentic and full of character.
Manufactured in our Hampshire workshop, the project drew upon a range of in-house capabilities including scenic fabrication, aluminium fabrication, CNC manufacture, scenic carpentry, specialist finishing and LED integration. Bringing these disciplines together allowed us to create a high-specification installation that was both visually striking and built to withstand the demands of daily operation onboard.
More than a decade later, projects like Bill's Place remain a great example of the blend of fabrication, scenic construction and technical integration that continues to underpin much of our work across cruise ships, theatres and live entertainment venues worldwide.
